Demon King Ascension System

Chapter 28

It was certainly tiring to use the spell, but it was still bearable for him and he didn’t need to pass out or close his eyes.

“Wait a minute, Vera, I think I need some time here,” Blake said with bated breaths after hearing Vera’s question earlier.

Seeing that Blake was really spent and needed time to rest, Vera nodded her head and left him to rest while she walked over to the darkness tendrils that had covered a section of the wall, the one that came out of the darkness ball that Blake had created.

She observed the darkness tendrils from up close and noticed the denseness of the darkness elements contained in the darkness tendrils was beyond the usual darkness tendrils on the darkness spells of this realm. Although they weren’t as thick as the original spell if she were to use the spell in the second realm, the denseness of the darkness elements was still significantly thicker than the spells of the first realm.

‘Just how did he do this...’ Vera thought to herself as she replayed the scene of Blake drawing the second realm runes and successfully manifesting the spell.

It wasn’t a necessarily complicated spell in the second realm as it was the equivalent of a basic darkness binding spell in the first realm, but even that simple second realm spell shouldn’t be able to be used in the first realm without using a nether gathering rune formation or a special treasure to supply the quality of nether needed to activate a spell from a deeper realm.

.....

But no matter how much she wondered about it, she couldn’t figure out how it was possible for Blake to do it and just decided to wait for Blake himself to tell her what he did.

So after she was satisfied looking at the spell that Blake had cast, she drew some more runes in the air and activated the rune formation that she had placed on the testing section.

Once the rune formation in the room was activated, the visible symbols glowed on the ground beneath her and the walls of the room before the darkness tendrils that she and Blake had cast earlier started crumbling down and the stone floor and the stone walls fixed themselves back to their earlier state before they were destroyed by the protruding darkness tendrils.

It took Blake a full minute to finally recover and take a seat on the floor.

“Woah... That was certainly something that I didn’t expect to happen.” He muttered after taking a deep breath and releasing a huge sigh.

“Yes, I also didn’t expect that you would be capable of casting a spell from a realm you haven’t even touched yet,” Vera said as she walked over to the humanoid demon and sat beside him on the floor.

Blake tensed up a little when Vera sat so close to him as even though they had been living together for a while, the two of them rarely interact much with each other, let alone being an arm’s length away from each other.

He would have twitched and tried to sit straight if it were under normal circumstances, but now, Blake was too tired to do all that and his body returned back to normal, leaning back on the stone wall after his initial surprise.

“To answer your earlier question, I also don’t know how I did it,” Blake spoke, breaking the silence between the two.

Vera tilted her head while looking at the ceiling, seemingly trying to figure out how Blake did it, and seeing her mesmerizing wondering face, Blake added more details to his explanation, hoping that it would help the beautiful demoness to find the answer she was looking for.

“I only drew the runes like usual by putting nether onto the tip of my finger, and just like drawing any other runes, they stayed in the air for a while before manifesting. However, different from the other spells, this time, when the runes stayed floating in the air, I felt something was drained from me at an incredible rate. The draining felt so strong that I was barely able to stand on my knees earlier.”

“I didn’t know what it was that the runes had drained from me, but after sitting down and resting for a while, I figured out that it was my nether. My body felt numb earlier, but after I tried the breathing technique you taught me to recover nether in our bodies faster, the numbing feeling gradually disappeared at a noticeable rate.” Blake explained.

He didn’t know whether his explanation would help her or not, but he had tried his best, and there was nothing else he could explain to her.

Fortunately for him, after he finished his explanation, Vera’s eyes seemed to brighten a little before she nodded her head a couple of times while her right hand was holding her chin before she said out loud,

“That’s probably it.”

“What’s it?” Blake asked, this time, he was the one who was confused and tilted his head while looking at Vera.

Vera then looked back at Blake’s eyes before she spoke again,

“I think the reason why you could do that was because it’s you.”

Hearing Vera’s answer, Blake was even more confused, but luckily, Vera didn’t leave him hanging for long and continued her explanation,

“Remember what I said about how your darkness element affinity was unbelievably high?”

Blake nodded.

“The measurement device wasn’t too accurate on showing these things, and all we know was that you had a high darkness affinity, but you said earlier that the nether in your body was drained right? Then it was probably because the runes used the nether in your body to cast the whole thing, unlike the other spells where it only needed a fraction of nether from your body to initiate and take the rest from the surroundings. That would explain why you are very drained after casting a single spell.”

“But that wasn’t all, if the spell from the second realm could use the nether inside your body, then that means the quality of nether inside your body is already above the nether in this realm... That was unheard of before, but considering you are so talented yet you only have a darkness affinity, it was fair to think that your affinity was so high that you are capable of doing this.” Vera said while looking at Blake with eyes full of amazement.

Blake was definitely happy after hearing Vera praising him, moreover when he looked at her shining eyes. And seeing how dazzling her eye looks when she was excited about something, Blake decided to surprise her even more.

“Umm... about that single darkness affinity thing...It’s not as single as it used to be...” He muttered while giving Vera a dumb smile on his face.
