Chapter 145 - A Type Of Growth
Chapter 145: A Type Of Growth
“Immature, you think you can sleep peacefully like this?”
Meng Cai Wei speechlessly hung up the receiver and found herself some food. At the same time, she called her assistant and told them about Meng Fan’s poster drawing inquiry, asking him to ask around.
She did not say her little brother was looking for jobs but told him Qin Jiao’s studio was accepting this kind of work instead.
It was late already, and he knew Qin Jiao was very close with Meng Cai Wei, so the assistant was extra diligent regarding the task. He would certainly bring up Meng Cai Wei’s name for any negotiations.
Meng Cai Wei knew what she was doing for she wasn’t a daft person. Since she confirmed Meng Fan’s “mutually beneficial service”, Meng Cai Wei wasn’t going to listen to him and just tell him about the opportunity and have him approach them one by one. She was definitely going to help as much as she could.
After settling the task, she let her food to be digested for a while and went to lie in bed. Just as she was feeling sleepy, she suddenly remembered Qin Jiao’s “let me tell you”…
Meng Fan headed to Qin Jiao’s office at 9:00 am and signed the NDA. The contents were simple; he could not disclose the contents of the film to anyone even though the film sample he received was only fragmented and not the complete movie. But it was enough for Meng Fan to provide an example for the posters he would be working on. Plus, the other party could contact him whenever.
There was sufficient time too with the final deadline being half a month away.
It made sense. Usually, it took an average person half a day or more to produce a high-quality illustration, and once they were done, they did not have the energy to draw more. It was considered efficient if they could finish one draft in a day.
At the same time, Meng Fan also received a 10,000 HXB pre-deposit.
After he signed it, Meng Fan brought the USB to class.
After class ended, Meng Fan ate a meal and glossed over the contents on the USB. In addition to the information he received before, he already had a concept for what he wanted to draw.
Even if the requirements were high, Meng Fan knew an afternoon was enough time to finish ten pieces.
In other words, he was making 50,000 HXB in an afternoon. Meng Fan was pretty satisfied with his ability to make money; only he didn’t know how to turn this into a common occurrence and not an incidental opportunity. He had to wait for Meng Cai Wei’s news.
In the afternoon, Meng Fan did not have time to draw. This was because the second round of the academy’s basketball tournament began. The animation department would begin the first match of the second round of competitions at 3:00 in the afternoon.
There were ten level 2 faculties, so there were only 10 teams that made the second round. The ten teams were split into groups A and B. Each group had five teams and would compete based on points. Among these groups, two teams from each group would emerge and enter the final match in the format of A1 vs B2 and B1 vs A2 for the semi-finals.
The animation department was in group A, and their first opponent was the new media department from the mixed media faculty.
There were only three departments in the new media faculty, and the total number of students did not exceed 300. The entire faculty only had one dozen more people than the animation department.
Therefore, in terms of probability, this team was not very strong, and this was true in real life as well.
Meng Fan was on the starting lineup this time. His position could be considered the point guard; a point guard who could not dribble. Probably the only one on earth.
After ten minutes into the first half, the game was basically decided. Meng Fan was switched off 15 minutes later.
Easily, they won the first round of their group’s match.
Meng Fan tried to sneak out during the celebration as usual and head back to the dorm. He sent the copied manga info to Chen Da Qiang. Although his drawing skills were god tier, he still had to give the work meant for an assistant to Chen Da Qiang.
Chen Da Qiang saw the work and began to tremble. “This is too much?!”
“You have a week to finish it.” Meng Fan said.
“No wonder you told me to stop accepting tutor jobs.” Chen Da Qiang smiled bitterly. “If you need this much every week, I have to quit another tutoring job.”
“Well, you can figure it out then.”
Meng Fan left this statement and went off to run.
After running, Meng Fan returned home to shower before opening his phone to see the messages from Meng Cai Wei, one line, two lines, three lines… seven lines, all consisting of Wechat business cards.
Followed by: “Add them yourself.”
“All of them?” Meng Fan was ecstatic.
Meng Cai Wei did not respond.
After adding and verifying them one by one, the contacts directly sent him the requirements and the film clips or a cloud password…
There were seven film crews, three of them being TV series, two movies, and two variety shows.
The cards included contact information for the creative directors that most actors and celebrities knew of.
The pay was good with some paying more than Qin Jiao’s job, and there were ones that didn’t pay that much. Out of them, the lowest-paying one averaged about 2000 HXB per poster.
Under Meng Fan’s pen, there was no difference between a high-quality hand drawn movie poster and a regular novel illustration, but the average price for a hand-drawn poster was more than 10 times what an illustration charged.
He looked at the deadlines for submission; the longest deadline was a month, the shortest being a week.
There wasn’t anything that couldn’t be drawn.
So he took them all!
The other party’s attitudes were all very good, and they responded fast. They were very happy to discuss the content, and in the duration of a meal, he had settled negotiations with all seven parties.
Their attitudes were so brief and polite; it must have been because of Meng Cai Wei’s influence. She probably didn’t tell them he was her brother, but she had definitely let them know that this person was someone that was important to Meng Cai Wei. As long as his work was passable, they would be crazy to say anything more.
Chen Da Qiang brought dinner again, this time with a bone marrow combo featuring braised pork spine, pickled vegetables, rice, and soup. He brought four portions.
The braised meat was soft and tender and came off with one gentle prod from the chopsticks. There was enough meat that one could heartily eat it. The pickled vegetables were amazing and very appetizing. The rice was fragrant, and the soup was delicious. Xing Ta Ge wasn’t there, so Meng Fan finished his portion as well after he began his binge.
Sometimes, he couldn’t help but feel that food was a gift from God. This talent to find good food did not just mean a natural sensitivity to taste but also enough luck to find great cuisine.
Chen Da Qiang was someone who did not know food but was really good at finding places to eat. He frequently brought delicious food, and it had nothing to do with the price either.
This wasn’t even the most terrifying thing. The most terrifying thing was that if a person sent someone else to the same restaurant, the food they brought out would taste different!
Meng Fan was blessed in this aspect and full of respect!
After eating, Meng Fan strolled back. The entire way, Meng Fan actually had the interest to make some bank tonight. He did not care much about making money before nor was he interested in earning them.
When he did the illustrations for those novels, he never thought about money. He only wanted to publicize his own work through these public authors.
Although he didn’t waste money, he had no concept of spending either. If he felt something was suitable for him or necessary, and he had money on his card, he would spend it. He never considered if it was worth it or not.
Meng Fan thought about it. ‘This must be some kind of growth, right?’
Not bad.
